more rock layering, and now one of the buildings - sepia, red earth... and thin antelope brown over the stone areas...

beginning layering color - raw sienna for lit, antelope brown for shade, red earth for second color layering... olive and emerald green for vegetation...

as said, the grisaille is done, tho might add a wee bit on the apartments crossing the valley upper left, balconies, etc to give more sense of many apartments... adding greenery to the right rocks will be via colors...

the grisaille of "Preludes" is essentially done - am just holding off on the last bit for the moment as am thinking of adding yet another building down in that spot... but if decide not, then it will be greenery all the rest of the way...

having finished a week ago my latest painting, “Ports”, been embarking on a project on my bucket list, one which have been on my mind to do since the 70s, but the immensity of the idea was at the time too much for me to spend the needed time with, especially since so many other ideas were in line waiting to get out and painted… this was a large mural like one called “Metatropolis”, and was a visualization of the question - what if FLW had been commissioned to design a cliff city, as, say, per the Grand Canyon… the idea was, to me then, mind boggling, but intended going for it some day, hopefully… well, at long last am giving it a stab - here is my sketch for a smaller sized work to give an idea - “Preludes”, 32"x20", to be pen and acrylic inks…

this is a remake of an old and smaller work done years ago in acrylics - this time in pen and acrylic inks... am doing first with Prussian blue... 20"x16"

the yellow is too intense, so decided to mute it...

a lesson yet to learn - when ye tired, rest... do NOT push on...

 yes, ink got spilt... fortunately was little left in the old bottle of processed yellow... still.... but is savable -

there is refinement yet to do on the wave droplets. but the water is done... note needed to white parts of the sky as well as a bit of the water to do this, as otherwise the blue would have greened in that area...

 because parts of the railing was yellowed, decided to yellow the whole area of railing and sand, which then can have the tray darkened, and a diluted brown, perhaps umber, to layer over the railing... then can go and speckle in the sand - antelope brown and Indian yellow or yellow ochre...

ps - that is a glare on the background water - is really like the left all across...

went to my tea lounge and did some work while sipping a couple of chai, then did more when got home -

continuing with burnt sienna, did the side of the railing... eventually the railing will be overlaid with a color, but this sets the ring markings...
